Bryn Haworth
Als
der Gitarrist Bryn Haworth Ende der 60er Jahre des vorigen Jahrhunderts von
seinem Geburtsort Lancashire nach London kam und sich „Les Fleur de Lys“
anschloß,
ahnte er nicht, dass Jahre später der Musikjournalist Richard Williams ihn
„musician’s
musician –a first class rock musician“ nennen würde. „Les Fleur de Lys“ war
eine
motown / soul Band, die „Houseband“ des Musiklabels Atlantic Records.
Sie hatte keinen großen kommerziellen Erfolg, wurde aber zur Studioband vieler
bekannter Künstler des Labels.Als die Band 1969 aufgelöst wurde, ging Haworth
nach Kalifornien, war dort u.a. Mitbegründer der Band „Wolfgang“, einer Band
des legendären Produzenten Bill Graham ( Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane)
1973 kam er zurück nach Großbritannien und nahm für das Label „ Island Records“
seine
erste Solo LP „Let the days go by“ auf. Dort wirkten u.a. Gordon Haskell und
Pete Wingfield
mit. Seine zweite LP für „Island“ hieß „Sunny
side of the street“ (1974). Wieder
mit Pete Wingfield und Musikern von der bekannten Folkrockband „Fairport
Convention“.
1974 war für Bryn und seiner Frau Sally ein besonderes Jahr. Beide
wurden Christen, was sein „songwriting“ besonders beeinflusste.
Bryn: „Wir fuhren mit dem
Auto durch die Gegend und entdeckten ein Zirkuszelt.
Ich dachte, da ist ein Zirkus, und wir gingen rein. Es war aber eine
Evangelisation.
Wir waren Ende 20 und wussten eigentlich nichts über Jesus und die Bibel.
Am Ende des Gottesdienstes lud ich Jesus in mein Leben ein.
Eigentlich hatte meine Suche bereits drei Jahre vorher begonnen, als ich Dinge
tat,
von denen ich dachte, sie würden Gott gefallen. Ich hörte mit den Drogen auf,
wurde Vegetarier, rauchte nicht mehr und spendete einiges an Geld.
Aber das brachte nichts, und wir sind wieder auf die alten Gleise
zurückgefallen.
Dort im Zelt hörten wir aber, dass Jesus der Weg sei und die Wahrheit
und dass niemand zum Vater komme, außer durch ihn.
Das war das einzige, was ich an diesem Abend verstanden hab.
Und so betete ich: „Jesus, wenn du der Weg bist, will ich mit dir gehen.“
Diese Worte hatten Wirkung, Er kam in mein Leben.“
Das nächste Soloalbum nahm er für „A&M Records“ in Nashville auf:
„Grand Arrival“ (1978). Außerdem „Keep the ball rolling” (1979).
Es folgten Tourneen u.a. mit „Traffic“ und „Fairport
Convention”.
Bis 2005 (seine letzt CD auf eigenem Label „Bella Music“ trug den Titel
„ Keep the Faith“) erschienen 20 eigene Alben.
In Gefängnissen hält er Musikworkshops und auch Bibelstunden.
Bryn: „Ich komme selbst aus einem kaputten Elternhaus.
Als ich noch klein war, trennten sich
meine Eltern.“
Bryn Haworth blickt auf eine 40 jährige Karriere als Solokünstler und Session-
musiker zurück. Er ist einer der besten Blues und Slidegitarristen überhaupt.
Seine Alben mit Folk, Blues und Rockelementen zählen zu den Besten dieses
Genres. Die „Bryn Haworth Band“ besteht aus bekannten Instrumentalisten,
die u.a. auch für Musiker wie Eric Clapton spielen.
